My Ellis Island Manifest Viewer tool at https://stevemorse.org/ellis2/mm.htm?mode=ellis no longer works due to an expired certificate on the assets-heritage.statueofliberty.org website. And, for the same reason, the links generated by my Ellis Island Ship Lists tool at https://stevemorse.org/ellis/boat.html no longer work.

These problems can be overcome with a safe work-around that bypasses the expired-certificate test for the assets-heritage.statueofliberty.org site. It affects no other sites.

Here is the safe work-around if you are using a cromium browser such as chrome or edge. There is no equilalent work-around for the firefox browser.

1. Go to https://assets-heritage.statueofliberty.org or any other page on that site that says "Your connection is not private."
2. Click on any portion of that page.
3. Then blindly type the text "thisisunsafe."

That's all there is to it. As soon as you finish the blind typing you will see the page. You might see "This is a heading" and "This is a paragraph" repeated several times. This is normal. You will now be able to successfully use my Ellis Island Manifest Viewer as well as my Ellis Island Ship Lists tool.

This setting will be remembered until you turn it off. You can turn it off in the future as follows.

1. Go to https://assets-heritage.statueofliberty.org or any other page on that site
2. Click on the lock icon or on the "Not secure" text that is on the left side of the address bar.
3. A popup will appear and in the middle of that popup is a link that says "Turn on warnings." Click on that link.

Note that this work-around can be risky for a site that you do not know and trust. But I think we can all trust statueofliberty.org, so there is no risk involved in this case.
